The Fayette County Board on Tuesday heard a lot more on a potential new Fayette County Courthouse and Jail–including a potential cost. One thing that wasn’t discussed that much was a potential location. Fayette County Board Chairman Jacob Harris says they do have a potential location near the west interchange.
The new courthouse design is for a 62,000 square foot facility and would have a total cost of just under 47 million dollars. A path to potentially pay for the new courthouse was laid out by Lawrence Goldberg of the Goldberg Group that would include bonds, a 1% temporary increase in sales tax, and added prisoners from others to increase revenue. But, Harris says that proposal was simply a “worst case scenario.” He says they are exploring other avenues for funding, such as state and federal dollars.
