Richard “Rick” Warren Helm, 80, of Vandalia, Illinois, passed away Monday, August 12, 2024, at Vandalia Rehab and Health Care Center in Vandalia, IL.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, August 17, 2024, at Miller Funeral Home, Vandalia, IL, with Dr. Ben Foxworth officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Avena, IL. Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, Saturday, August 17, 2024, at the funeral home. Memorials: Shriners Hospitals for Children and/or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. He was born November 26, 1943, in Vandalia, IL, the son of Ernest Gerald & Helen Marie (Haslett) Helm. He married Saundra Kay (Henderson) Motycka on May 14, 1981, in Vandalia, IL, she passed away April 8, 2017. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church. He worked at Ralston Purina in his earlier years, then Centralia Cartage and Western Auto as a truck driver. After retirement, he worked at Orgill and Bluff Equipment. He loved his Harley’s that he rode for 50 years, his old 53’ Chevy, and his family and friends.
He is survived by: Sons – Mark Helm, St. Elmo, IL and Josh Anderson & Leia, Carl Junction, MO; Daughter – Amy Houston & Bill, Vandalia, IL; Grandchildren – Vanessa Watterson, Destiny Baer, Cameron W. Houston Hannah Helm, Sarah Rearrick, Eva and Cameron J. Anderson; Great Grandchildren – Aubrey, Amelia, Roger, Mason, Jackson, Delaney, Gracelynn and Magnolia; Brothers – Jerry Helm & Mary, Columbus, IN, Ernie Helm & Kay, Wildomar, CA, and Don Helm & Jennifer, Chestnut, IL.
Preceded in death by: His Parents; Wife; and Granddaughter – Kayla Houston.
