Multiple buildings that make up the chicken housing complex for Wabash Valley Produce south of Farina have been destroyed in a Wednesday night fire.
The fire received mutual aid from throughout the region, including from Vandalia, Brownstown and St. Elmo Fire Departments. In all, 17 fire departments were on the scene of the blaze that was discovered at 7 pm and reportedly rapidly spread to other nearby buildings of the complex and continued to burn for several hours.
Both Fayette and Marion County Sheriff’s Offices provided assistance in traffic control and asked individuals at the time to avoid the area of Route 37 south of Farina. There have been no reports of any injuries.
