In the wake of a directive from Governor J.B. Pritzker’s office involving a revenue shortfall in the proposed 2025 state budget, some are saying “I told you so.” In a memo from Deputy Governor Andy Manar, state agency directors are being asked to prepare for $800 million less in available revenue. State Representative Marty McLaughlin is a member of the Commission on Government Forecasting and Accountability, which realized that new taxes would have to be implemented to balance the budget.
State Representative Adam Niemerg says the Governor needs to make cuts from his proposed budget.
The General Assembly has until May 31st to pass a budget with simple majorities.
