Altamont junior jumper Ben Roedl grabbed three top 5 finishes during and teammate and pole vaulter Jacob Veteto claimed a seventh place medal during Friday’s 1A portion of the Illinois Top Times Indoor Track and Field Championships at Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington.
Roedl would have a double PR performance in the long jump and his sixth and final attempt would be 21’ 7.25” to catapult him into first place where he would finish for the event. In the high jump, Roedl would clear his first five heights up through 6’ 2.25” on the first attempt, but would not be able to have a successful attempt at 6’ 3.25” and with his best height of 6’ 2.25”, Roedl would finish second overall. After his two top 2 performances, Roedl would wrap up his day with competition in the triple jump with his best attempt coming on his second of six jumps as he would reach a distance of 42’ 8.25” that would put him in fifth place overall and give him his third top 5 finish of the day.
Veteto would also have a PR performance for the Indians in the pole vault. Veteto made clearance of the first two heights he faced on the first attempt before clearing 13’ 5.75” on his second attempt for a new PR by four inches. With the bar at 13’ 9.75”, Veteto was unable to clear the bar in his three attempts and would finish in 7th to earn himself a medal.
As for other area athletes, Altamont sprinter Abby Weishaar ran a personal record of 1:02.95 in the 400m to finish 11th while Hayden Summers, also of Altamont, ran a :54.37 to finish 19th in the Boys 400m Dash. Brownstown-St. Elmo’s Cordelia Lytle ran a season best 1:04.37 in the 400m Dash to finish in 20th while teammate Presley Williams ran a :8.44 in the Girls 60m Dash to finish 25th. Vandalia freshman hurdler Sam Bowers ran a 9.47 in the Boys 60m High Hurdles to finish 21st.
