Two accidents had traffic shut down for a time Saturday afternoon on Interstate 70 near Greenville.
State police responded to a two-vehicle crash involving a truck tractor semitrailer and a Chevrolet Equinox on eastbound I-70 near exit 41 Saturday at 4:30 PM. One person was pronounced deceased at the scene. No other injuries were reported. Due to the crash, traffic on eastbound I-70 was closed with all lanes reopened at approximately 9:00 pm.
While that investigation was ongoing, a second crash occurred on I-70 eastbound near mile post 39 at approximately 8:03 pm. ISP responded to a three-vehicle crash involving two truck tractor semitrailers and a pickup hauling a livestock trailer with horses. One person was transported by helicopter to a local area hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Another person was transported by ambulance to a local area hospital with life-threatening injuries. Eastbound I-70 was closed at that location until 3:05 AM. Traffic was diverted onto Rt. 40.
Additional information, including the names of those involved in the accidents, and fatalities, has not yet been made available by Illinois State Police.
