Illinois deer hunters have options in how they harvest during a hunt. Dan Stephens, instructor with the Illinois Learn to Hunt program, says he’s very interested to see how many hunters decided to switch to lighter centerfire rifles–now that they are legal in Illinois.
Stephens and his wife stuck with their standard shotguns on their Vermillion County hunt this year.
Some women and teen hunters prefer easier-to-handle centerfire rifles. As an instructor for the Illinois Learn to Hunt program, Stephens hosts a lot of mentored hunts throughout the state, giving people different deer hunting opportunities.
