A Vandalia Alderman says that downtown businesses are concerned about parking for their customers.
During Monday’s Vandalia City Council meeting, Alderman Ken Hubler said he has heard from downtown businesses who are concerned about the available parking for customers.
Hubler says they are really concerned about losing business. Vandalia Police Chief Jeff Ray says this is an issue that has come up a few times over the years.
Chief Ray says one problem is that, in theory, an individual could park in one spot for just under 2 hours and then move to a new spot and repeat the process. Hubler reported some vehicles that are parked on Gallatin Street all the time and that they are potentially tenants of the downtown apartments. Mayor Rick Gottman asked Chief Ray to address the issue. Gallatin Street is limited to 2 hour parking at all times.
