We hear today from Fayette County State’s Attorney Brenda Mathis, as she talks about how no cash bail will be handled in court. As we discussed on Monday, no cash bail will lead to those charged with lesser or non-violent offenses to be given a summons and released. But, those charged with violence offenses and could be found to be a danger to themselves or others could be held. Mathis says much of the brunt of the no cash bail handling will fall on the State’s Attorney’s Office.
And, Mathis says those that are held with no bond will have a shortened timeline on when they will need to appear in court for trial much quicker.
No Cash Bail is set to begin in Illinois on September 18th. We will hear more coming up tomorrow.
