Former CHBC track and field standout and current SIU Salukis Jadon Robertson is making his Decathlon debut on one of the biggest of stages, competing in the USA Track & Field (USATF) U20 (Under 20) Outdoor Championships at the University of Oregon in Eugene where he had a strong first day and sits in 3rd place after the first five events of the 10-event Decathlon. Robertson started the day with a 5th place finish in the 100m Dash, running 11.34 seconds, and followed that up with a 3rd place finish in the Long Jump, jumping 21’ 11.5”. Robertson then claimed a 5th place finish in the Shot Put with a throw of 38’ 9” as he would sit in 4th place overall heading into the fourth event, one of his strongest events the High Jump. Robertson would run away with the event, jumping 6’ 7.5”, 3.5 inches ahead of the second and third place finishers in the event. That first place finish would propel Robertson to the number two spot in the overall scoring before Saturday’s final event where Robertson would finish 6th in the 400m Dash with a time of 52.17 seconds. That would have Robertson sitting in 3rd place on the overall board with 3,661 points, just 9 points behind second place and 101 behind first place. With athletes awarded upwards of just over 800 points and down to just over 500 points for each event based on their finish in each event, Robertson has plenty of time to jump up into the top two spots. His other strongest event will be coming up Sunday with the first event of the day, the 110 Hurdles, at 11:00am (Central Time). The remaining four events will be as follows: Discus at 1:50pm, Pole Vault at 3:25pm, Javelin Throw at 5:30pm before the last event of the Decathlon and the running events for the day, the 1500m Run or mile, will be ran at 7:15pm.
