Illinois lawmakers voted to approve a measure prohibiting limited-service pregnancy centers from engaging in what the attorney general could deem deceptive acts or practices. Senate Bill 1909 would allow the Illinois Attorney General to shut down pregnancy resource centers in Illinois. Such facilities may not offer abortion services. The measure led to a heavy debate in the House on Wednesday. State Rep. Terra Costa-Howard says women deserve protection when dealing with a pregnancy.
State Rep. Adam Niemerg asked the the attorney general, who was in attendance during debate, to answer the questions they had but was directed to speak only to Howard.
The measure has passed both chambers and now awaits further action.
