Illinois Republicans says Governor J.B. Pritzker’s administration entrapped citizens who bought certain semi-automatic firearms during the 6 day window the state’s gun ban was blocked by a federal court. State Senator Jason Plummer says when the Southern District enjoined the state from enforcing the law, there was no guidance provided by the Pritzker administration. Illinois State Police said after consulting with the Attorney General, certain firearms purchased during that time are illegal. Senator Plummer says he believes this was handled this way on purpose.
If upheld in the courts, the law that was signed by the Governor on January 10th says those registering banned firearms by the New Year must attest they were owned before the law was enacted. Meaning the purchases in the 6 days window earlier this month would be illegal.
