After a federal jury found four former ComEd executives and lobbyists guilty of all charges related to influencing longtime former House Speaker Michael Madigan, one legal analyst provides insight into what this means for Madigan. The four now convicted defendants were found guilty of being involved in a nearly decade-long bribery scheme to financially benefit the utility. Madigan is facing his own corruption charges. Saint Xaiver Professor Dave Parker says this week’s outcome does not bode well for Madigan.
Parker says he would not be surprised to see Madigan’s team raise issues of having an unfair trial.
Madigan faces over 20 charges and has pleaded not guilty. His trial is scheduled for next spring.
