Illinois lawmakers are pushing for a measure that ensures employees a maximum of 12 weeks of unpaid leave if the employee experiences the loss of a child by suicide or homicide to pass through the House. Senate Bill 2034 was passed by the Senate late last month. On Wednesday, state Sen. Karina Villa discussed the measure and said the bill is tailored to parents who’ve gone through traumatic incidents.
State Sen. Maurice West also spoke about the measure and said no parent should be at risk of losing their job after losing a child.
The measure passed through the Senate in late March and now awaits further action from the House.
