The Vandalia and St. Elmo-Brownstown high school cheerleading squads are set to compete in the Illinois Cheerleading Coaches Association State Championships this weekend at the Bank of Springfield Center in Springfield. All of the varsity high school team competitions will be held on Saturday with the junior varsity and junior high competitions held on Sunday.
For Vandalia, they will be competing in two separate divisions at the high school varsity level after qualifying in the small varsity team routine division as well as the game day division. The Vandals will be the first small varsity team to compete and will report Saturday morning for the routine division at 7:35am before going through their two separate warm-ups at 8:15am and 8:30am before going on-deck at 8:45am and competing at 8:50am.
For St. Elmo-Brownstown, they will also be competing in both the small varsity routine and game day divisions after qualifying for both divisions. They will be the second small varsity team to compete after the scheduled morning break time and the 13th small varsity team overall to hit the floor in the routine division when they report at 9:50am before going through warm-ups at 10:25am and 10:45am before getting on-deck at 11:00am and competing at 11:05am.
Both the Vandals and the Eagles will have a large break as the competition will get through the 32 small varsity competitors, 22 medium varsity competitors and 10 large varsity competitors and the schedule morning, lunch and afternoon breaks before the championships move into the coed routine division and the game day division at the mid-afternoon point. Vandalia as the second small varsity game day competitor will report at 2:15pm before going through warm-ups at 2:55pm and 3:10pm before taking their place on deck at 3:25pm and taking the competition floor at 3:30pm. SEB will be the fifth small varsity game day competitor and will report at 2:45pm before going through warm-ups at 3:25pm and 3:40pm, taking the on-deck position at 3:55pm and competing at 4:00pm.
The day will then wrap up with the Varsity awards being presented at approximately 5:30pm.
