(Springfield, IL) — Since the U-S Supreme Court threw out the constitutional right to an abortion more than a month ago, the number of out-of-state patients seeking abortions in Illinois has skyrocketed. Officials with Planned Parenthood of Illinois say before the court ruling, they provided abortions for about 100 patients a month. Now, they’re helping up to 800 patients a month. Before the ruling, a patient seeking an abortion in southern Illinois would have to wait three or four days. Today, the wait has stretched to three weeks or longer. Meanwhile, wait times at clinics in Chicago have not been affected as much.
