A second potential candidate has announced their intent to run for Resident Judge of Fayette County as current Associate Judge for the Fourth Circuit, Marc Kelly, announced his candidacy on Friday night. Kelly has served in his current position as Associate Judge since he was appointed in March of 2011. Kelly says that experience is a driving factor behind his decision to run as he would like to use his time on the bench to help the community in their experiences, no matter the reason they find themselves in a courtroom.
Throughout his time as an Associate Judge, Kelly has been able to preside over cases in all nine counties in the Fourth Judicial Circuit ranging from civil to juvenile to criminal cases. One thing that Kelly has learned through his work throughout the Fourth Circuit is how to adapt and he believes that would help him as Resident Judge for Fayette County.
Kelly also says being able to serve as the Resident Judge for the county where he and his family grew up and where he has been throughout his law career would mean a lot to him.
At this time, there are two potential candidates who have announced their intent to run for the position that will be vacant with the retirement of current Resident Judge Don Sheafor. Current Fayette County State’s Attorney and Republican Joshua Morrison announced his intent on Friday and is the only one to announce as a Republican at this time. Kelly is the only one to announced intent to run as a Democrat. The primary will be held on June 28 this year with the General Election to be held on November 8.
