Fayette County Sheriff Chris Palmer issued the following press release on Tuesday morning concerning a traffic accident on Monday night involving a department vehicle.
“On September 20, 2021 at approx. 9:11pm, a Fayette County Sheriff’s Office deputy was involved in a 2-vehicle crash at the intersection of Coles & Randolph Streets in Vandalia.
A 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe, driven by Annette Hartlieb of Vandalia, stopped at the posted stop sign at Coles Street and Randolph. A 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe, driven by Fayette County Sheriff’s Deputy Brock Rich, was eastbound on Randolph Street nearing Coles. For unknown reasons, Hartlieb failed to yield to the on-coming vehicle and drove into the intersection, causing the collision.
There were no injuries in the collision, and both vehicles were driven from the scene. No citations were issued.
The crash was investigated by the Illinois State Police. Officers from the Vandalia Police Department and Rural Med EMS also responded to the scene”.
