On Thursday, Governor J.B. Pritzker announced a new indoor public mask mandate and also announced all school staff and health care workers will have be vaccinated.
Illinois Public Health Director Dr. Ngozi Ezike says the mask mandate is back due to the rapid spread of the Delta Variant.
The Mask Mandate begins on Monday. Meanwhile, all school staff and health care workers will have be vaccinated under a new Illinois mandate. The mandate includes pre-school through college teachers and staff, college students and health care workers, including workers at public and private nursing homes says Governor Pritzker.
Meanwhile, Governor Pritzker also had some harsh words for elected officials who have been fighting against masks.
Governor Pritzker says the move is necessary to stem the rising number of COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations, especially among the unvaccinated. Since August 1st, local health departments have reported 27 school outbreaks and hundreds of schools are being monitored for potential COVID-19 exposure.
