The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office handled a plane crash or emergency landing on Friday, with the pilot suffering minor injuries.
In a report from Fayette County Sheriff Chris Palmer it states that at 8:45 pm on Friday evening the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a plane crash south of Vandalia Municipal Airport. Upon arrival, Fayette County Sheriff’s Deputies and Vandalia Police located the pilot, 40 year old Dustin Brewer, who stated the plane lost power while he was attempting to land at the airport. Brewer was taken by ambulance to Fayette County Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. Brewer was cited by Fayette County Sheriff’s Deputies for Operating an Aircraft Under the Influence.
Sheriff Palmer says officers were assisted at the scene by member of the Vandalia Fire Department. Sheriff Palmer adds the case is pending further investigation by the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office, the National Transportation Safety Board, and the Federal Aviation Administration.
