The Summer Lunches for Kids program is set to kick off for 2021. And, they are looking for donations and volunteers.
The program will begin on Wednesday, June 2nd and run until Friday, August 6th. The lunches will be available Mondays, Wednesdays, and Friday from 11 am to 11:30 am. The distribution sites are at Northside Christian Church at 1845 West Jackson Street in Vandalia and in Shobonier at the Township Building.
The SLFK program began in 2008 with a mission to provide children with free and nutritious lunches during the summer months when they are not in school. SLFK points out that over 50% of the children in Fayette County Schools are eligible for free or reduced-price lunches during the school year. And, that many families struggle to feed their children during the summer months when they are not at home. The program is asking for the public’s assistance in preparation for the 2021 program. There is always a need for volunteers and donations, both monetary and items needed for preparing the lunches.
Checks may be made to “Northside Christian Church/Summer Lunches for Kids” and mailed to Northside Christian Church at 1845 West Jackson Street in Vandalia. You can also make a donation of items for the lunches. For more information contact (text preferred) Holly and Les Smith at 618-322-2894, Pam Hall at 618-267-2724.
