Two individuals were injured in a motorcycle accident on Interstate 70 in Fayette County on Saturday evening. Illinois State Police reports indicate a motorcycle operated by 34 year old Thomas Gordon of Iuka was traveling west on Interstate 70 near milepost 61 in Fayette County. State Police say that Gordon stated a deer ran into the roadway and he was unable to avoid hitting it. The motorcycle struck the deer, causing the motorcycle to lay down and eject both the driver and passenger, 45 year old Athena Gordon of Iuka, into the roadway. State Police reports say Thomas Gordon was transported by ambulance to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries and was later flown to a regional hospital for further treatment. State Police say Athena Gordon was flown to a regional hospital with non-life threatening injuries. State Police added the roadway was closed about 1 hour during the crash investigation.
