
A Decatur man was arrested in Vandalia over the Memorial Day weekend and charged with aggravated kidnapping and unlawful restraint. 32-year old Tyler L. Williams was admonished of the charges against him on Wednesday. Williams is charged with one count of aggravated kidnapping s information states that Williams allegedly “while armed with a firearm, committed the offense of kidnapping” in that he “knowingly and secretly confined the victim against her will.” The count is a Class X felony punishable by six to 30 years in prison. Williams is also charged with one count of unlawful restraint, a Class 3 felony punishable by 2 to 5 years in prison, as well as one count of unlawful possession of methamphetamine, also a Class felony punishable by 2 to 5 years in prison. Williams was appointed a public defender for a bond hearing to be held. Following arguments concerning bond, probable cause was found to detain Williams and bond was set at $150,000 with a no contact order in place for the victim and one witness. The next setting in the case will be June 3 at 11am.
