(Undated) — The push is on in Georgia to enact hate crime laws. The move called for by several state lawmakers comes after Ahmaud Arbery’s shooting death. The black man was jogging through a neighborhood in Brunswick in February when he was shot and killed. Last week Gregory McMichael and his son Travis were arrested for murder and aggravated assault in Arbery’s death. They are both white. Members of Georgia’s Legislative Black Caucus want the state’s code to be modified to include hate crimes.

(Washington, DC) — President Trump says the coronavirus will go away without a vaccine. The President spoke to reporters at the White House Friday, and was asked about a possible vaccine. Trump said the pandemic would go away without a vaccine, “and we’re not going to see it again, hopefully, after a period of time.” He added that the U.S. may see some “flare-ups” of the virus throughout the year, but believed states should lift restrictions and let Americans go back to work.

(Washington, DC) — Senate Democrats are calling for an inspector general to investigate the Justice Department’s decision to drop the government’s case against Trump adviser Michael Flynn. Rhode Island’s Sheldon Whitehouse and Connecticut’s Richard Blumenthal want an immediate investigation into that decision and others that have benefited close allies of the President. They wrote that if it is not investigated it presents a threat to the rule of law. Michael Horowitz is the Justice Department’s inspector general and it’s his decision to investigate or not.
>>Mother’s Day Weekend Cold Front Expected Through Great Lakes, Northeast And Parts Of South
(Undated) — A cold front is expected to sweep through the Great Lakes, Central U.S., Northeast and parts of the South this Mother’s Day weekend. Rain and snow conditions already started from western New York down into West Virginia on Friday. High wind gusts today and tomorrow could cause power outages in the Northeast. Daily highs are expected to be ten to 25-degrees below average now and into the beginning of next week with possible record setting cold for portions of the South. Freeze warnings are in effect from Kansas and Oklahoma to much of the Midwest, Mid-Atlantic states and as far south as northern Georgia.

(Undated) — Celebrity chef Guy Fieri is helping restaurant workers who are out of a job because of the coronavirus. On Friday, Fieri announced on Instagram that the Restaurant Employee Relief Fund is sending out ten-thousand notifications of grant approvals for restaurant workers hard hit by the coronavirus shut down. It brings the fund’s total to 20-thousand grant approvals so far. In the past two months or so the new fund has raised more than 20-million dollars from which the grants are being dispensed.
