Fifth District Appellate Court Judge David K. Overstreet has announced that he intends to seek election to the Illinois Supreme Court in 2020 following Supreme Court Justice Lloyd Karmeier announcing his intent to retire next year. Overstreet has served as an appellate court judge since his assignment in 2017 before being elected to the seat in 2018. During a recent stop in Vandalia, Overstreet discussed his experience and says he would like to continue the good work Karmeier has done if elected.
One thing Judge Overstreet says he would like to continue working with his colleagues on is making the courts more transparent.
And with having moved through many of the various judicial stages from trial lawyer up to the appellate court, Judge Overstreet says that experience will greatly benefit him should he be elected to the Supreme Court.
The Fifth District in which Judge Overstreet currently represents on the Appellate Court and would represent if elected to the Illinois Supreme Court covers 37 counties from the metro east, southern Illinois, central Illinois and eastern Illinois.
