The Vandalia City Council will hold a Truth in Taxation hearing at 6:30pm this evening prior to their regular scheduled council meeting tonight at City Hall. The hearing will be open to the public and is required by law as the city council has discussed a 10.87% increase in the tax levy for this year to address police pension funding issues that are being seen not just locally, but by municipalities all across the state and even the nation. The council has been presented with three options that range from a 4% or a 10.87% increase all the way up to a 26.84% increase. During the December 3 meeting of the council, the majority of the council agreed to recommend a 10.87% increase that would help cover the minimum amount needed for the police pension fund. After hearing input from any members of the public in attendance for the hearing tonight, the council will then vote on a tax levy resolution during its regular 7:30pm full council meeting.
