As more cases of Hepatitis A pop up in Illinois, State Public Health officials urge those at risk to get vaccinated. As far this year in Illinois there have been 75 cases of Hepatitis A, which can cause liver damage. That’s just a little above normal, but a recent outbreak is concerning says Public Health Director Dr. Nirav Shah. He says the infection is most commonly spread thru food.
Shah says they are working with local health departments to make the vaccine more readily available for free or at a reduced cost to those at greatest risk.
