Clean up continues today in areas in Montgomery County and in Taylorville after multiple tornadoes hit the areas on Saturday evening–leaving behind a path of damage. Tornado warnings were issues on multiple occasions in Montgomery County on Saturday afternoon and evening with funnel clouds being spotted in Raymond and Butler and other spots in the county, with also reports in Litchfield and Staunton as the storm continued to move. Staunton’s Country Classic Cars also reported heavy damage. Taylorville was hit hard with damage throughout the community and reports of 20 people being injured and close to 100 homes being damaged.
Meanwhile, Taylorville officials are working to keep folks from coming to the community, essentially closing the town to outsiders at this time. Taylorville Mayor Bruce Barry says there’s a lot of work to do over the next few weeks and months and they don’t want people to come and sight-see the damage.
