The January trial date for a St. Peter man charged with two counts of murder remains in place while a motion to suppress hearing is set to take place within a week of that scheduled trial date. 25-year old Alexander Beccue of St. Peter made an appearance with defense attorney Ed Deters in Fayette County Court on Tuesday for a pretrial hearing. Fayette County States Attorney Josh Morrison told Judge Don Sheafor that he had been informed by Deters that the defense would be filing a motion to suppress and Deters explained that he was still weighing possibilities with his defense for trial. A pretrial and motion to suppress hearing has now been scheduled for January 9 at 9am. Following the hearing, it is expected the two sides will then determine if they are prepared to move forward with the currently scheduled January 14 trial date. Beccue is charged with 2 counts of First-Degree Murder in the shooting death of Joshua K. Smith in the early morning hours of August 11, 2017 and currently remains in the Fayette County jail on $1 million bond.
