A St. Peter man charged with two counts of murder is set to appear in Fayette County Court at 1pm this afternoon. 25-year old Alexander Beccue will appear today for a scheduled pre-trial hearing. During today’s hearing, the status of a report from the state crime lab concerning DNA evidence is expected to be discussed as State’s Attorney Josh Morrison informed the court during an October court setting that he was waiting for that report to determine is that specific DNA evidence would be needed for the trial. Defense Attorney Ed Deters stated during the October court setting that he had expected to be ready for the current trial date of January 14 if he received all discovery in time so an update as to whether that trial date will stand or be reset could be discussed during today’s hearing as well. Beccue is charged with 2 counts of First-Degree Murder in the shooting death of Joshua K. Smith in the early morning hours of August 11, 2017 and currently remains in the Fayette County jail on $1 million bond.
