The Deer Harvest in the first weekend of firearm season was up for area counties and throughout the state. Overall, there were 58,836 deer harvested in the first season. That’s up from 51,450 in the first season last year.
As for this area, Fayette County saw a first season deer harvest of 1193 deer, which is up from 1014 last year in the first season. Bond County saw a first season harvest of 583, which was up from 444 last year in the first season. Effingham County saw a first weekend harvest of 773, and that is up from 580 in the first season one year ago. The second firearm deer hunting season runs November 29th thru December 2nd.
