Senate lawmakers are voting to override the Governor’s veto of “Tobacco 21” legislation. The measure raises the legal age to buy cigarettes, vaping devices and tobacco products from 18 to 21. Governor Bruce Rauner vetoed the bill, saying this will just cause young adults to get their tobacco products from neighboring states. But, bill sponsor State Senator Julie Morrison says the change is needed to prevent more people from picking up the deadly habit.
It is now up to the Illinois House to also attempt to override the veto.
