As you turn your clocks back this weekend, the Illinois State Fire Marshal is hoping you’ll also check your smoke alarms. Daylight savings is always a good time to make sure your smoke detectors are working properly says State Fire Marshal Matt Perez. He says it’s important your family has an early warning should a fire break out.
Perez recommends installing 10 year smoke alarms to reduce the risk of forgetting to change the batteries. A new state law requires these devices in all homes that do not have hardwired smoke detectors by 2022.
