We talk again today with Roger Hill, who is a City of Vandalia resident is laying out reasons for urging his fellow Vandalia residents to vote against the proposed 1/2% sales tax that will be on the ballot on Tuesday. Some would make the argument that sales tax is the most “fair” tax. But, Hill says there is a study for the United States that shows real estate taxes are actually the most equitable across all income levels.
And, Hill says another reason he believes folks should vote no is because he says real estate taxes will continue to climb, even with a sales tax increase.
The City of Vandalia has placed the 1/2% sales tax increase on the November ballot. And, if the measure passes, 1/4% would go to fund a new Water Treatment Plant and 1/4% would go towards the police pension fund. Meanwhile, we’ll hear from both those for and against the sales tax coming up tomorrow during NewsCenter.
