A Brownstown man has pleaded guilty in Fayette County Court to aggravated driving under the influence, third offense. 48-year old Joseph D. Beshel entered the negotiated plea last week in Fayette County Court. Under the agreement, a charge of aggravated DUI resulting in death was dismissed and Beshel agreed to a sentence of 7 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections on the remaining charge of aggravated DUI, a third offense. During prior court hearings, Beshel was alleged to have had a blood alcohol level over the legal limit as well as THC in his system on the night of January 19, 2017 when his vehicle struck the front part of a vehicle driven by 47-year old Scott White of Brownstown as he was attempting to turn left into his driveway off of Route 40 west of Brownstown. White was later pronounced dead at Fayette County Hospital by the Fayette County Coroner at that time, Bruce Bowen. Due to a possible conflict in the case, the prosecution by the state was handled by Special Prosecutor Matt Goetten of the Appellate Prosecutor’s Office.
