The September unemployment numbers are down for Fayette and surrounding counties. Unemployment for Fayette County in September was at 4.3 percent. That is down from 4.6 percent in September of one year ago. As for other area counties, Bond County unemployment was at 3.7 percent in September. That’s down from 3.9 percent in September of 2017. Marion County is at 4.3 percent, which is down from 4.6 percent in September of last year. Effingham County is at 3.2 percent, down from 3.4 percent in September of 2017.
The Illinois Department of Employment Security says that employers have increased demand for employees in public administration, manufacturing, and finance and insurance. And, industries such as health care and social assistance, administrative support, and waste management occupations showed a slight decrease over the year.
