The race for Fayette County Sheriff is a contested one for the November General Election. However, during the Candidates Forum hosted by WPMB-WKRV last week, the two candidates did agree on one topic. When asked what is the number one criminal threat or problem in the county, Democrat challenger Ed Durbin stated that drugs on the street are the top issue.
Incumbent Republican Sheriff Chris Smith agreed, saying it is important to educate kids young about the dangers of drugs.
The race for Sheriff is just one of three major contested races in the county as the ballot is also full for both the County Clerk and County Treasurer races.
