The pre-trial hearing for a St. Peter charged with two counts of murder. 25-year old Alexander Beccue made an appearance in Fayette County Court on Tuesday for a scheduled pre-trial hearing. To start the hearing, Judge Don Sheafor asked the state and the defense if they felt they would each be ready for the scheduled January trial date. Defense Attorney Ed Deters informed the court that he felt they would be ready once he had received all discovery as there was still a matter of DNA evidence being tested. State’s Attorney Josh Morrison explained that he was waiting on the report from the State lab on the DNA evidence to determine if its need for trial and stated that he would again check on the status of the report. While waiting on the report, Deters requested that another pre-trial date be set in December with a follow-up motion hearing then scheduled between that December date and the current scheduled trial date. With availability discussed for another hearing, a status on the DNA evidence report and pre-trial has been set for November 27 at 1pm. At this time, the trial date of January 14 still stands as scheduled. Beccue is charged with 2 counts of First-Degree Murder in the shooting death of Joshua K. Smith in the early morning hours of August 11, 2017 and currently remains in the Fayette County jail on $1 million bond.
