The Vandalia City Council took care of several new business items during its first meeting of October on Monday night. The council approved the amending of the municipal code adding an additional Class E liquor license for a new restaurant that will be located at the corner of Gallatin and Kennedy and will feature Mexican and American food. The council also gave authorization for the Mayor to enter into an electric supply agreement for city facilities. The six lowest of ten quotes were presented to the city with the lowest being from Liberty Power. The current contract electric supplier Direct Energy expires in December. Ameren remains the city’s utility with Direct Energy, and soon Liberty Power, providing the electric supply.
In other business, the council approved an intergovernmental agreement with Vandalia Correctional Center as the city will be giving VCC a wood chipper that they will work to refurbish and then be able to use around the city, county and other areas they service with work crews.
