Governor Bruce Rauner is renewing his call to reinstate the death penalty in certain cases. The Chicago Police Department retired the Badge of Fallen Commander Paul Bauer on Tuesday. Governor Rauner attended the ceremony and praised Bauer’s bravery. He also urged lawmakers to bring back Capital Punishment for those who kill police officers.
Bauer was shot and killed back in February by a four-time convicted felon during a chase near the James R. Thompson Center in Chicago. The state abolished the death penalty in 2011.
