The Vandalia School District is working on student safety plans, with a couple of initiatives they have been discussing this month. At last week’s board meeting, the most recent Student Safety Committee meeting was talked about. One plan they are working on is updating the fire and intruder drills. Vandalia Superintendent of Schools Dr. Jennifer Garrison says it’s about situational awareness.
Dr. Garrison says another plan they are working on is to possibly no longer allow backpacks in the classroom. But, she says there are some things that would have to be done before that could take place.
Dr. Garrison mentioned that many districts no longer allow backpacks in the classroom.
