Today is the first day of fall. Technically, fall will begin tonight at 8:54 pm. And, with the first day of fall, the weather is playing along as cooler temperatures are here and look to be here to stay. We’ll see gradually clearing skies for today with a high of just 70 and partly cloudy skies tonight with a low of 51. This comes after just seeing temperatures in the 90s and heat index readings over 100 as recently as Thursday.
Cooler temperatures are not the only big change, the other one is gradual and we have been seeing it every day of the summer—and that’s the loss of daylight. Over the summer season, from the longest daylight of the year on June 21st, we have already lost 2 hours and 45 minutes of daylight. That trend will continue until the first day of winter, on December 21st, when we will have the shortest amount of daylight–and then the days begin to get longer.
