Mrs. Mary M. Bail-King-Smith 90 years old formally of St. Elmo passed away peacefully on early Thursday afternoon, September 13, 2018 at 12:07 pm at the Shelbyville Manor
Nursing Home, Shelbyville, Illinois.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday September 18, 2018 at 11:00 am at Fairview United Methodist Church, rural St. Elmo with the Rev. Roy Abbott of Decatur officiating. Visitation will be held for the family and friends at the church beginning at 10:00 AM.
Mary was born on the family farm, Avena Township in Rural St. Elmo, Illinois on May 21, 1928 one of five siblings into the Christian family of Fred Sylvester Bail and Harriet Elizabeth Fletcher-Bail. She graduated from the 8th grade from Star School, Avena Township and high school from St. Elmo Community high school in the class of 1944. She married William D. King from Birmingham, Alabama on May 9, 1949. Mr. King preceded her in death on April 24, 1952. She then married R. W. Smith on November 15, 1953 and he survives.
Mary was a housewife and a mother, and was employed outside the home in various office positions as the need arose, retiring from Archer Daniels Midland Company of Decatur, Illinois after a 20 year tender on September 31, 1989.
Mary leaves to mourn in her passing: Husband R. W. Smith of St. Elmo; 2-Sons: Steven (wife, Patty) King of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Rodney (wife, Sherry) Smith of Edinburg, Illinois; 2-Daughters: Marcia (husband, Rev. Dr. Milton) Bost of Chatham, Illinois; Beverly (husband, Gary) Waltrip of Decatur, Illinois. 18 Grandchildren and 19 Great-Grandchildren; 1-Brother-in-law: Ronald Ragsdale of St. Elmo, Illinois.
She was preceded in death by her Father, Mother, Brothers Dale, Robert and Stanley Bail and 1-Sister: Karel Ragsdale.
