It’s been a wet start to September in Illinois, thanks to Tropical Storm Gordon. September’s statewide average precipitation has already hit 3.5 inches. That’s more than 3 inches above normal says State Climatologist Jim Angel.
The highest rain total was in Clay City, which got more than 10 inches. Locally, there were reports of 8 to 9 inches of rain in the southern part of Fayette County and into northern Marion County. Angel says the wet weather is due to remnants of Gordon and the cold front that passed thru Illinois.
