(Bloomington, IL) — A new report says fewer young men are playing high school football in Illinois. The Federation of State High School Associations last week said the number of high school football players in Illinois has fallen 17 percent over the past few years. Matt Troha with the Illinois High School Association said some of the drop can be blamed on the fear of injuries, but he also said that some of the decline is because some of Illinois’ smaller high schools are shrinking.
