The state is using its 108 million dollar Volkswagen settlement to kick off the “Driving a Cleaner Illinois” program. The idea is to help replace old diesel engines all over Illinois, with more environmentally friendly options says Governor Bruce Rauner.
The state will award funding to selected projects. The first round will go to the Chicago area. Future funding will be for the East St. Louis area, as well as Champaign, and other areas in the northern part of the state.
