(Cairo, IL) — Illinois’ two U.S. Senators are once again pushing federal housing managers to do more in East St. Louis. The Southern Illinoisan yesterday reported that both Senators Dick Durbin and Tammy Duckworth wrote a letter to Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson asking him to use more oversight authority to find solutions for people living in public housing in East St. Louis. The letter points to unsafe and aging homes in the city, as well as a murder and an arson death that were blamed on poor housing conditions.
