The 2018-2019 school year is officially here which means motorists needs to be aware of various traffic laws in play. Passing a stopped school bus can result in not only fines, but also the suspension of a drivers license. Anyone convicted of a first offense of passing a stopped school bus will have their license suspended for three months in addition to a minimum fine of $150. A conviction of a second offense within a 5-year period will lead to a suspension of a person’s license for of one year and a minimum fine of $500. Special speed limits are also in effect in school zones when children are present. The penalty for someone receiving a ticket for a school zone speeding violation is $150 for a first offense and $300 for a repeat offense.
