There were multiple injuries from a 2 vehicle accident north of Brownstown on Tuesday afternoon. The accident occurred on Brownstown blacktop, about 4 miles north of Brownstown, at about 4:30 on Tuesday afternoon. Illinois State Police reports indicate a vehicle driven by 32 year old Joshua M. Lawrence of St. Elmo was traveling eastbound on County Road 2000N at the intersection of County Road 1600E. State Police reports say Lawrence failed to yield at the stop sign to a vehicle driven by 66 year old Robert C. Stonecipher of Brownstown, which was traveling southbound on County Road 1600E. State Police say Lawrence pulled out in front of Stonecipher causing Stonecipher’s vehicle to strike the front driver’s side of Lawrence’s vehicle with the front passenger side of Stonecipher’s vehicle. State Police say that Stonecipher’s vehicle came to rest in the ditch to the east of County Road 1600E, just south of the intersection. Lawrence’s vehicle came to rest in the roadway just south of the intersection. A passenger in Lawrence’s vehicle, 53 year old Edward E. Willis of St. Elmo, was ejected from the vehicle. Lawrence was flown to Barnes Hospital in St. Louis by Arch helicopter. Willis was flown to St. John’s Hospital in Springfield by Arch helicopter. A passenger in Stonecipher’s vehicle, 68 year old Debra J. Stonecipher, was taken to Fayette County Hospital for treatment. Robert C. Stonecipher was not injured in the accident.
