(Cincinnati, OH) — Eugenio Suarez homered for a third straight game as the Reds topped the Cardinals 7-3 in the rubber match of their three-game series at Great American Ball Park. Jack Flaherty gave up three runs in five innings to fall to 4-and-5. He did strikeout eight to only two walks. St. Louis was 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position and left 11 on base.

(Chicago, IL) — Pinch-runner Tyler Chatwood scored the deciding run on a throwing error in the eighth inning as the Cubs clipped the Diamondbacks 2-1 at Wrigley Field. Ben Zobrist singled in the other run in the fourth inning for the Cubs, who are 4-and-4 since the break. Jon Lester tossed six-plus innings of one-run ball while Carl Edwards Jr. was credited with the win. The four-game set concludes this afternoon.

(St. Louis, MO) — The Cardinals and Cubs have their second series since the All-Star break beginning tomorrow at Busch Stadium. It’s the opener of a three-game set. Chicago took three-of-five from St. Louis last week. The Cards are fourth in the NL Central at 51-and-51, eight-and-a-half games behind the first-place Cubs.
